Formative Stages & Accreditation

DTBS was established in 2003 for individuals of varied academic backgrounds. The school’s establishment was motivated by the high unemployment rate among the youth and the high poverty levels which was a result of the teaching style following a theoretical curriculum, commonly used by most institutions of higher learning.

Datamine is a vocational institution and the pioneer institution in Uganda to offer blended technical/business training courses and to experiment an integrated model of vocational education encompassing training, technology demonstration and community/business outreach.

Incorporation and affiliations

DTBS was licensed and classified as a vocational institution by the Ministry of Education in 2003 (License No. ME/VOC/023) and licensed by the National Council for Higher Education in 2007 as Diploma and Certificate Awarding Institution for technical and business courses (License No.PI.PL.0016).

DTBS has also been affiliated to Makerere University Business School (MUBS) since 2010.

Success story

The last ten years has seen a number of young people being churned out with different skills to survive on the street. We are proud of being able to empower so far hundreds of young people with technical and business skills to make them cope and compete favorably in the labour market. As a result, many of them have managed to secure placement in decent paying jobs in both public and private sectors, and a number of them have been lucky to start up own business firms. Since accreditation by the National Council for Higher Education in 2007, DTBS has held 5 successful graduation ceremonies, where thousands of young people have been churned out with skills pertinent to job creation.
